Exterior Foundation Footing Drain

Some homes were built without footing drains or the drains are so badly deteriorated that they must be replaced. Generally this is accomplished by excavating a trench around the house to a depth below the elevation of the footings. A perforated drainpipe is installed on a drainage grade to a central collection point in the trench and covered with drain rock.

After any repairs are made, the trench is filled with drain rock and covered with a filter fabric to keep the soil from invading the drain and causing a future blockage. Cleanouts are also installed for maintenance and inspection of the footing drain system. The central collection point of the system is then connected to the storm sewer system.
